Het consumeren van spullen neemt in een rap tempo toe. Versleten objecten, die de tijd verdragen hebben en onverwoestbaar gebleken, worden ogenblikkelijk vervangen voor nieuwere exemplaren. Zijn we ongevoelig voor de significantie van objecten, vol met sentiment en nostalgische waarde, die spontaan een gevoel van verlangen oproepen?
In mijn werk voel ik steeds meer weerstand om nog meer nieuw werk te maken, met nog meer nieuw materiaal. Als alternatief wil ik hergebruiken wat al is. verwaarloosde objecten op het randje van vernietiging roepen voor een nieuwe laatste kans. In mijn werk zijn de processen van hergebruiken ,modificeren, terughalen, transformeren, omzetten, bijstellen, aanpassen, altijd van belang.
In de serie “Het omgekeerde schilderen “ ben ik vergeten en achtergelaten schilderijen van onbekende kunstenaars gaan verzamelen. Deze “onbelangrijke” werken, verwaarloosd en ongeschikt voor restauratie waren broos bij aanraking.
In dit werk heb ik dit onvermijdelijke verval proces versneld en zelfs nog een stap verder genomen. De werken zijn systematisch ontleed van lagen verf, en met archeologische precisie nauwkeurig verwerkt en gecategoriseerd. Dit intieme process van het ongedaan maken van een ander zijn schilderproces onderzoekt nieuwe vormen van bestaan, en tegelijkertijd is het het natuurlijke kringloop proces van vergankelijkheid en nieuw leven.
Dit werk onderzoekt hoe ver ik dit schilderproces kan terug brengen naar een andere configuratie waar een nieuwe betekenis ontstaat. In die zin verschuift de draagwijdte van een visuele inhoud, naar een conceptuele significance.

There is a sadness to our consumerism; the cycle of production to destruction is quicker than ever. The tendency is too need more, and more new.
We disregard and replace objects at a rapid pace. Aging objects have obvious connections to previous relationships, history, use and their position in time. Loaded with sentiment and nostalgia, they create a spontaneous and undeniable sense of longing. Are we indifference to the value of aging?
In my work I feel a growing resistance to creating yet more new work, with more new material. Instead for this project I wanted to rebuild using neglected objects. This Idea is becoming increasingly more important in my work. The processes of Recycling, reclaiming, salvaging and altering disregarded objects are key .
In the serie “the painting reversed “ I collected neglected and disregarded works from unknown artists. These “unimportant” works, unqualified for restoration had paint falling off at the slightest touch.
For the work I helped the unavoidable decay proces along, methodically dissecting and removing all the loose paint but at the same time like an archeologist carefully preserving, processing, labeling and systematically cataloging the remains. This intimate proces of reverse painting, represents the cycle of life, and investigates new forms of continuing to be.
The research investigates how far I can reverse the painting process, into a new configuration, where there is a new significance to the work. The importance seems to shift from visual to a more conceptual idea on impermanence.
